Lyons Colorado was founded by Edward S. Lyon in 1880…purchasing 160 acres with the St Vrain river running right through it… although no one seems to know how it got to be called Lyons as opposed to Lyon for the namesake. It could be suggested that not much has changed since they added a second story to the old sandstone building in 1894. Lyons perhaps the best kept secret in Colorado sports of population of about 2500 to 5000 if counting the outlying mountain areas…offering small western-mountain town appeal and only minutes from Boulder or Longmont. Like taking a stroll back in time Lyons features small old fashioned town streets, late 19th century architecture, Antiques old Indian artifacts and a main street old time malt shop.
Lyons Planet Blue Grass is host to two major concert events during the summer and fall…the annual Rocky Grass (pictured) music festival which attracts people from around the nation and features national headline acts….and the Folks festival folks music festival. Lyons also has its own micro brewery in Oscar Blues and a number of establishments offering live music.
Lyons offers a number of riverfront properties together with scenic views from rock formations.
