Moving with Kids

Selling a home and moving into a new one can be a particularly stressful time for the little ones. Steve has compiled some helpful information for parents to read that may assist in making the move easier on your children.
- Tell your child about your anticipated move to better prepare them.
- Help your child learn about the new area. Make a special day for the whole family to have a picnic lunch, and then take a walk in your new neighborhood before you move in.
- Let your child help decide how his/her new room is to be arranged and decorated.
- Encourage children to exchange addresses and phone numbers with their friends if they will be going to a new school. Buy them their own address book to store their information in, or help them enter the phone numbers in the family computer.
- Prepare a package for each child containing snacks, some clothing, and a few favorite toys for the move. This will eliminate the search through numerous moving
boxes for your child's special stuffed animal.
- Take a "family break" as soon as the major unpacking is done. Don't try to do everything when you get to your new home.
- Take some time to talk to your child about their new school, teacher and friends. Get familiar with your child's new school by checking out Steve 's school information.
According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the more frequently a family moves, the more important the need is for internal stability. With the proper attention from parents, moving can be a positive growth experience for children, leading to increased self-confidence and interpersonal skills.
Because Steve attends to the individual needs of his customer base, he has created a Move-eeze ® program that contains helpful material and age-appropriate books for each child. Contact Steve to find out more about this program.
